Jun. 8--Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will visit Bahrain early next week to pursue closer economic relations with the oil-rich state.
Thailand and Bahrain recently strengthened their bilateral relations with several exchanges of ministers, senior officials and businessmen. Mr Thaksin and the Bahraini Prime Minister, Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, will now consider the framework for an economic alliance and will sign a formal agreement next week.
Officials from both sides met in Bangkok to prepare for the premier's visit on Monday and Tuesday, but gave no details of the planned pact.
