Fed: PM backs double jeopardy change=2
Deidre's mother Faye Kennedy launched a petition today with federal MP Peter Dutton,calling for the law to be reviewed.
Dubbed "Deidre's Law", they have proposed in cases of serious crime state attorneys-generalshould have the power to order a new trial if compelling new evidence is uncovered.
A spokesman for Mr Dutton said they were "elated" at the response they had alreadyreceived, with more than 100 people phoning from throughout Australia, walking into theoffice and attending public appearances today.
"Faye in particular is just touched at the support she's been getting - it hasn't beeneasy for her," the spokesman said.
