Beer prices reviewed to adjust rates.

Feb. 20--The Excise Department is preparing to review retail beer prices to serve as a benchmark for possible adjustments to tax rates. Wisudhi Srisuphan, the department's director-general, said the review was aimed at ensuring "greater equality" for producers competing in the market as well as seeing whether taxes were being properly paid to authorities.

He declined to comment on whether the price review would lead to changes in the current tax structure.

Beer taxes are currently based on ex-factory prices under a three-category scale. Categories are assigned to each producer's products by the Excise Department based …
