WOONSOCKET, R.I. -- CVS Corp.'s decision earlier this year to pay nearly $3 billion for Albertsons Inc.'s freestanding Osco and Sav-on stores was one that will provide the drug chain with immediate benefits and help keep it atop the industry for years to come, according to executives.
For the short term CVS is greatly strengthening its position in markets where until now it has only made minor inroads.
