Fed: DFAT cannot confirm nationality of man arrested in Bulgaria

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says it can't confirm whether a man arrested
in Bulgaria over a fatal stabbing is Australian.

The 21-year-old is in police custody .. after a 20-year-old Bulgarian national died
on the way to hospital following an alleged attack in the capital Sofia.

Bulgarian police say the man responsible for the attack is Australian .. but claims
to be a British soldier.

Another 19-year-old Bulgarian's been injured in the alleged incident .. but is in a
stable condition.

Consular staff from the British embassy are planning to visit the man on Monday to
establish his citizenship and provide help.
